Okanagan Survey & Design was established in 1989 By David Perozak. Jeff Ennis purchased the business in 2011 and has successfully operated it since. Jeff began surveying in 2002 and has been involved in construction, engineering and running Land Surveying field crews throughout British Columbia and northern Alberta.In 2011 Jeff purchased Okanagan Survey & Design and has successfully carried on the business of David Perozak. Okanagan Survey & Design has been operating since 1989.
Jeff specialises in construction and engineering surveying and has worked for some of the largest industrial contractors throughout British Columbia. Jeff’s experience in significant large scale construction projects include Prince George International Airport expansions, Dokie Wind Farm on the northern ranges of the Rocky Mountains, and many Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure highway upgrades. Jeff also has experience estimating large heavy civil projects.

David E. Metvedt

David E. Metvedt has over 17 years of project management experience working with geospatial technologies and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). David holds a bachelor’s degree in GIS and his professional work experience spans a wide range of industry sectors, including: environmental consulting, forestry, mining and mineral exploration.

In 2013 David’s passion for mapping and aviation led him into the rapidly growing and exciting world of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s). It was clear to David that this disruptor level technology was going to be a game changer and that year he started a consulting company using UAV’s for terrain modeling, structural inspections, crop monitoring and agricultural research. With over 500 hundred safe & incident free UAV flight hours at the controls David is an expert UAV pilot and UAV systems specialist.

An avid skier, mountain biker and golfer, David lives in Kelowna and enjoys sharing the natural beauty of the Okanagan with is two young children and wife.

Helga managed three small utility companies (sewer and water), performing both the maintenance and administrative duties. In addition, she worked in construction with various duties from laying pipe in the ditches to operating the packer and grading surveying. Helga has an extensive educational background including a Bachelor of Science, AutoCAD Training, Accounting, and Water Quality Technology.

Eric joined OSDC in 2013 and is a key component to OSDC’s technical team. Eric graduated from OUC’s Civil Engineering Technology program in 2005. Eric has since worked as a civil engineering designer before beginning his career as a surveyor. Eric has surveyed some major infrastructure projects in the valley including Highway 6 re-alignment, Oyama to Winfield four laning, and Sneena road and overpass.

A Robotic Total Station is a Total Station equipped with servo motors that control both the horizontal and vertical circle movements of the instrument through remote control. The instrument locks onto and follows the prism that is being remote controlled.
Robotic Total Stations allow for a very efficient and economical one person survey crew. We find working with a robotic instrument is significantly more efficient as movements don’t have to be communicated to a second person at the survey rod from the person at the instrument. Robotic Total Stations also eliminate opportunity for miscommunication between the instrument person and the rod person as well as eliminating error caused by the human eye such as parallax.
Another advantage to using a Robotic Total Station is the ability to lock onto a prism in dense forest where it may be extremely difficult for the human eye to see a glimpse of the prism.

Static GPS surveying

This technique of GPS surveying is completed using two or more receivers simultaneously collecting data from the same satellites. This is used to establish highly accurate horizontal and vertical control over long baselines. Sub centimeter accuracy can be achieved by post processing the RAW observation on specialized software or using Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) service. Real Time Kinematic (RTK) surveying

This technique of GPS surveying allows for one person surveying capabilities in positioning, mapping and quantity surveys. RTK surveying requires a GPS receiver (Base Station) be setup on a point with known coordinates and receive satellite signals to determine the stations coordinates and compare them to the previously determined known coordinates. Once the difference is calculated the correction is calculated it then transmitted to another receiver (Rover) that is simultaneously tracking the same satellites. The roving GPS receiver then uses the transmitted data to remove most of the error thus determining accurate positioning in real time. RTK surveying is commonly used for construction surveying, topographic surveying, and volumetric surveying.
